Tina Fey Gets Animated

Waddled to the computer on this post Thanksgiving morning to bring you this - Tina Fey is adding her vocal talent to Miyazaki Hayao’s English version of Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea. She’ll be joined by Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, and that crazy ol’ coot, Cloris Leachman. Trailer is below.

I wonder what character Tina will play. Will she be that hussy that comes out of the water? The mom to that little boy with the unfortunate haircut? Guess we won’t know til 2009. BTW, the trailer looks thoroughly trippy and disturbing. What is that thing in the water bubble?

I’m off to strap a trough of leftovers to my face and if there isn’t any pumpkin pie left, it’ll be ugly.

Tina Fey Is Disappointing Me

Not to put all the blame on her shoulders and her writing chops but this season of 30 Rock has been kind of lackluster thus far. I’m not alone on this sentiment either, as my co-Feynatic Alex chimes in:

[13:45] Karmen: 30 rock was : /
[13:46] Alex: oh
[13:46] Alex: yeah
[13:46] Karmen: the only funny lines were tina’s about going to a club named “chili’s”
[13:46] Alex: i’d have sex with jennifer aniston’s character
[13:46] Karmen: they need to cut the shit w/the stunt casting
[13:46] Alex: ahahhaha
[13:46] Karmen: dude, ALL guys would
[13:46] Alex: yeah
[13:46] Alex: it was meh
[13:46] Alex: there were a good couple of scenes
[13:46] Alex: the night court thing was meh, but I used to LOVE night court
[13:46] Karmen: i used to watch and like Night Court but i can’t remember why it was good
[13:46] Karmen: YES
[13:47] Alex: ahahhaa
[13:47] Alex: there’s even a rap song
[13:47] Karmen: it just took up too much of the episode
[13:47] Alex: that uses the beat
[13:47] Alex: from the night court theme
[13:47] Alex: i used to rock that shit
[13:47] Alex: hard
[13:47] Alex: man
[13:47] Alex: the good old days
[13:48] Alex: ahahhahahaha
[13:48] Alex: but other than that
[13:48] Alex: yeah it was ok

Another friend of mine noted that the show should go back to focusing on The Girlie Show instead of their office antics. I hadn’t even noticed the absence of TGS but I wholeheartedly agree. And ENOUGH of the stunt casting already! I don’t mind the occasional guest appearance but it seems like a cheap baiting tactic to reel in more viewers. I would expect this from a lesser show but not from 30 Rock. The guest stars can be funny when used here and there but so far, every single episode this season has prominently featured a cameo from a guest star. And it doesn’t look like it’s stopping either with Steve Martin having a role in next week’s episode.

It’s hard for me to say all of this considering my unconditional love for Tina and 30 Rock but sometimes I just have to keep it real (neckroll). Hopefully, with the rumored return of Dr. Spaceman, the Floydster, and Dennis the Beeper King, 30 Rock will tickle our funny bones once again.

On the plus side, Tina Fey was named one of Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2008. You can see who else ol’ Babsy finds fascinating on Dec. 4 when the special airs on ABC.

Tina Fey on Oprah

As you probably know, Oprah will be on this week’s episode of 30 Rock. But did you know that Tina Fey is going to be on the Oprah show this Thursday as well? Set your VCRs, kiddies! I can’t promise that it’s a new episode though because it’s hard to tell from Oprah’s website if it’s going to be the rerun with Amy Poehler or if it’s going to be a brand spanking new episode with just Tina as the guest. We shall see.
