Tina Fey: Entertainer of the Year (Every Year)

It comes as no surprise to me that Tina got named The Associated Press’ Entertainer of the Year! No one else but Tina kept me in stitches throughout the year (let’s give Baby Mama a pass, shall we?). People who never watched 30 Rock would talk about her Palin impressions and I would poke my head into their cubes with the uninvited but enthusiastic, “YOU SHOULD REALLY WATCH 30 ROCK, IT’S FANTASTIC!” Of course 30 Rock has fallen a little flat these days but the last few episodes that didn’t feature a ZOMG! SUPER GUEST CAMEO were rather funny. So I hope my little coworkers heeded my sagacious advice and are avid 30 Rock fans now. In the meantime, let’s hope 2009 brings even bigger and better things for Tina Fey, including better winter footwear. You know I truly love someone when I forgive them for wearing Uggs.

Tina Fey - The Most Fascinating Person on the Planet, Ever

So it figures that I made a post reminding people to watch this but I ended up forgetting to watch it myself. Every Thursday after watching 30 Rock I somehow get sucked into the first half hour of E.R.! It’s only after about that first half hour that I come to my senses and realize I am watching some really horrible television. It’s inexcusable and I promise to not let it happen again. Anyway, by the time I DVR’ed the Baba Wawa special I had missed the part with Tina in it. Luckily, there is this thing called the internet that is really mega awesome for forgetful people like me.

This interview was so lazy! C’mon, Babsy. I know you’re “famous” and somewhat respected but do some WORK for Pete’s sake (speaking of Pete, where has he been?). “Do you think you look like Sarah Palin?” “Do you miss SNL?” You would think she would ask more creative and engaging questions for this program considering how short the segments are for each person being interviewed. Maybe she did ask other questions that were more interesting but why would they have edited those out? Why leave the questions that have already been asked and answered countless other times from other interviews? I didn’t watch the rest of the special but if her questions to the other “fascinating people” were this unoriginal and redundant then man, what a waste!

I haven’t read the Vanity Fair article yet because I want to buy the magazine and cut out the pictures of Tina for my shrine/mural but apparently, the article alludes to an unnamed pinball game that featured Tina’s voice! Some nerds did some investigating and it turns out to be 1997’s Medieval Madness by Williams Electronic Games. You can listen to snippets of her voice work over at Pinball News (as if you’re not already a regular reader of Pinball News, right?)

Also, don’t forget that tonight’s episode of 30 Rock is going to be a new one! Liz goes to her 20th-year high school reunion. I hope she really gives it to some old, washed up expired cheerleaders or something.

After you watch 30 Rock you can go grab a snack or take a quick leak before tuning into “Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2008″ which airs on ABC at 10pm EST. Yes, Tina is amongst these 10 otherwise I wouldn’t give a hoot… unless Barry O is number one, that is.

And lastly, Philly.com has a cool slide show with some Tina pics from way back when. Love, love, love the picture of her hugging a computer in 1988. What is that, an Apple II GS?

Torn About Tina

You’ve probably seen this cover of the upcoming issue of Vanity Fair making its rounds on the internet. Suffice to say, Tina’s sexified image hasn’t gone unnoticed. As an ardent fan of hers and as a self-proclaimed feminist, I have conflicting views about this. Witness:

[14:51] karmen: i have so many conflicted feelings about this!
[14:52] alexanderyoon: hahahah
[14:54] alexanderyoon: why
[14:55] karmen: i guess in the end i am ok with it and i can see how it is beneficial to her career, being in the public eye and all and how the industry demands women to look a certain way. i just hope she maintains integrity and doesn’t lose sight of who she is amongst all this post-Palin hoopla. i mean, men get away with being fat slobs in movies and tv and comedy was supposed to be that one entertainment vehicle where females got a pass (or so i thought - see Roseanne and the like).
[14:55] karmen: but if i were her, heck yeah i’d want to rock that body at 38 after being a little frumpy most of my life. if i looked like that at 38 i would wear sexy lingerie to fry some eggs
[14:55] karmen: but still
[14:56] karmen: i feel that she has compromised a lot to get where she is today and i think that kind of lessens my opinion of her a bit
[14:57] karmen: i want to believe that she did it for herself, to be healthier, etc etc. but she even admitted it was only after seeing herself as an extra on SNL that she thought she needed to lose weight b/c she looked too big
[14:58] karmen: but on the other hand, i do feel like she has been a good representation of women in comedy. she isn’t all T&A ALL OF THE TIME; just mostly for these sorts of editorials. i mean i guess she still writes that “every woman” character on 30 rock that we all know and love
[14:59] karmen: see? conflicted!

At the end of the day, I am still a big fan of hers and will continue to be until the day she picks up Clairol #457 Platinum Frosty Blond and decides to get membership at the local tanning salon. After all, I can’t hate on a woman who has such dorky dance moves:

And here’s to hoping I’ll be looking half as fly at 38!

*BREAKING* - Tina Fey’s hubby talks about “THE SCAR”

A little bit…

AP via Yahoo! TV

Tina Fey’s husband is talking about something the “30 Rock” actress would rather not discuss: the scar on her left cheek.

In an interview in Vanity Fair, Jeff Richmond says a stranger slashed Fey’s face when she was 5 years old. He says the incident occurred in the front yard of her house.

Says Richmond: “That scar was fascinating to me. This is somebody who, no matter what it was, has gone through something. And I think it really informs the way she thinks about her life.”

Fey says talking about the attack would seem like exploiting it.

Says Fey: “It’s really almost like I’m able to forget about it, until I was on-camera, and it became a thing of `Oh, I guess we should use this side’ or whatever. Everybody’s got a better side.”

Last time I heard anything about the scar, Tina Fey allegedly mentioned that it did happen when she was young (true), and it involved her parents (untrue?).

Well, looks like that mystery is settled… for now.

And I’ll love you no matter how many scars you have, stamatina.
