Tina Fey and Steve Carell’s Third Wheel

Tina Fey and Steve Carell are teaming up to star in Date Night where they’ll play a married couple struggling to keep the spark alive in their relationship. Sounds kind of ho-hum since it’s being done by the guy who did Night at the Museum but who knows, maybe Tina and Steve will make it work.

You know what YOU can make work? Winning me a walk-on role in Date Night, that’s what. It’s true, there is now an official charity auction for a walk-on part and the person who wins this may or may not get to meet Tina Fey (and Steve Carell, if that matters). All you have to do is send money to my PayPal account so I can bid on this like crazy. Don’t worry, I’ll chip in as well. I have money set aside for braces but I am willing to live the rest of my life with my British/Japanese teeth for this once in a lifetime chance at hobnobbing with Tina. I can just picture it - me and Tina at craft services, eating fresh fruit and Sabor de Soledad while she shows me pics of Alice (you know, her daughter) from her wallet. Then we’ll bond over being flat-footed, left-handed, and nearsighted. And then we’ll be email buddies after this whole experience and she’ll write in a role for me on 30 Rock as her intern or assistant or maid.

But none of this can happen without your help. So, like Sally Struthers, I am reaching out to you for your help and generosity. A small donation is all I need. Just the cost of a small cup of coffee (but I’ll need like, 3000 cups) and this can be mine. You must act fast though because this auction ends on March 5th! Don’t let broadway, ads5960, and polohorses beat me. They are undeserving miscreants and I must squash their attempts at usurping my dreams!

Tina Fey with Steve Martin at the Oscars

Tina presented with Steve Martin last night for Best Original Screenplay. I can’t find a better video of this yet so for now we’ll have to deal with this guy’s overhead lighting in the screen’s reflection. I’ll update with another video if a higher quality one surfaces.

Was that a swipe at Scientology? LOVING it.

Here’s a picture of Tina from last night.

There’s a full length picture online but her eyes look really wonky in it and as a fellow victim of photographic wonky eyes, I really don’t want to post that here. I’m sure more pictures will pop up later and I’ll post them here when that time comes.

Reunited and It Feels so Enh

Set your VCRs because Tina is scheduled to be on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (barf) on Tuesday, March 3rd. I used to be smitten with Fallon when he was on SNL. I don’t know why. He’s not funny, he flubbed his lines a lot, and he annoyingly laughed into the camera every chance he got. He was/is (?) a total coke head. He even seemed like he was on something when he was interviewed on Ellen’s show a couple of weeks ago. I was home sick from work and watched the interview and he was his usual mess. He was really antsy and jittery and he kept touching his ears a lot. He also spoke in jumpy, fragmented sentences and had a hard time sitting still. Too much coffee? ADHD? Maybe. I just find it hard to believe that he’s going to be able to conduct funny and interesting interviews with people when he himself cannot act like a functioning human being.

BRB, mourning the loss of that gangly red fox, Conan.

Schweddy Balls

Don’t forget that Alec Baldwin is hosting a new episode of SNL tonight! I wish they’d revive the Delicious Dish radio show sketch. I bet Kristen Wiig could do an awesome Delicious Dish voice/persona.

McFlurry Gate ‘09

The internet is in a tizzy after last night’s episode of 30 Rock where McDonald’s McFlurries were prominently featured. Commenters on New York Mag’s website boo-hooed the frosty treat’s spotlight. Apparently, this isn’t the first time 30 Rock has shilled products. I say “apparently” because I have a really bad memory and I don’t recall any of these product placements! Luckily, someone online has made a compilation of these ads:

There was also an episode where SoyJoy bars were mentioned but again, I have no memory of this. It’s hard convincing people I’m a fan of this show because whenever they try to pull some quotes on me, it falls on deaf ears. I get a lot of “What kind of fan are you?!” remarks which are unfair because I suffered some brain damage as a child when I accidentally drank some Drano (this is a lie and a Punky Brewster reference).

So what do I think of these product placements? Honestly when I watched last night’s episode the thought didn’t even occur to me! I’m so used to the Liz Lemon character loving food so much (Sandwich Day, Sabor de Soledad, cheese stew, etc.) that I just figured it was another COOL thing about this show. Liz loves to eat and is unapologetic about it. Never has she once sung the praise of some SALAD and for that, I’m eternally grateful. In regards to the McFlurry, all I thought was, “How come I haven’t had one of those yet?!”

Should I be concerned that maybe I have become so desensitized to product placements that I don’t even bat an eye when they’re staring me right in the face? I was a little unnerved about that this afternoon as I discussed the show with my friend. Have product placements become so normalized that people like me won’t even notice them anymore? I think I’m in the minority though as many commenters on message boards and entertainment websites have voiced their distaste in McFlurry Gate.

Here’s what Ms. Fey herself had to say about this:

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the references to McDonald’s in last night’s episode of 30 Rock were in no way product placement. (Nor were they an attempt at product placement that fell through.) We received no money from the McDonald’s Corporation. We were actually a little worried they might sue us. That’s just the kind of revenue-generating masterminds we are.

I admit I’m kind of surprised they weren’t paid by McDonald’s to do this. But it doesn’t matter to me whether or not they did because when it comes down to it, 30 Rock is still the best show on TV right now. Sure it may be 2nd runner up to Arrested Development if that were still on the air but it’s not and we have to deal with such shitty shows like Two and a Half Men or Lipstick Cashmere Jungle Gangstas. The writing on 30 Rock is good. It’s sliding a little this season but the show remains solid as a whole. With wit and panache, 30 Rock can pass off almost any product placement without beating it over the heads of its viewers. I have this much faith in its writers and actors!

And lastly, since it is VD Day’s Eve, I’d like to take this opportunity to break your hearts. Over on LiveJournal’s gossip community, Oh No They Didn’t, it was revealed that Tina’s Twitter is indeed a fake. A boob. A hoax. A motherfucking sham. I’ve already self medicated with some frozen shumai and I’m about to hit the Girl Scout cookies (all 5 kinds that my sister bought). After that I’m going to hit the sack with my hot boyfriend - Netflix. We’ve been on again off again for years but I’ve come back to his arms. He’s good to me.

Tina Is a Master Mind

Tina does her best Clark Kent

It looks like Tina Fey might be adding more voice over work to her lengthy resume. She’s already slated to voice a character in Miyazaki Hayao’s English version of Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea and now there are rumors that she will add her vocal talent to Master Mind . Robert Downey Jr. is also in talks to be in this animated super hero flick by DreamWorks which is not scheduled to open until November of 2010.

Judah's O Face

Judah's O Face

In other news, Judah Friedlander of 30 Rock is looking for love according to this piece in Time Out New York. I love how his style is “winner” which is a sartorial choice I’m fond of as well. Perhaps I should court this man in order to get closer to Tina. This sounds diabolical and underhanded but rest assured that I do not have it in my heart to win Tina’s friendship through less than honest means. Really. If anything I can give Mr. Friedlander some online dating tips seeing as how I’ve had SO much success in my own endeavors. I’m going to craft him an email later today to woo his trucker hatted heart and/or pimp The Stamatina Project. Results to come (hopefully).

Don’t forget tonight’s a new episode of 30 Rock!
